Arthur Bailey has been elected to become the next vice president of ICAEW
He will take on the role at the June council meeting.
A consultant with Begbies Traynor Group and a non-executive director, Bailey has served on the institute’s council for 14 years, including three years as chairman, and is currently a member of the institute’s board.
He beat stiff competition from fellow council members Ian Davies, Nick Parker and Nathan Steinberg.
Baileys said he is delighted with the result and considers it ‘a great honour’ to be elected. However, he is aware that it may not be an easy ride.
"We continue to make excellent progress in the implementation of our strategy, but we face some significant challenges as well as opportunities," he said.
"As an office-holder, I will seek to provide positive leadership, robust challenge, as well as support for our first class executive team and staff, so that we meet those challenges, take the opportunities and achieve our strategic goals."
The institute’s primary function, he stressed, is to support its members, wherever they are and whatever they require.
"In these times of economic uncertainty and increasing legislation, we need more than ever to provide that support so that they remain trusted financial and business advisers," he added. "One of my key priorities will be direct engagement with as many members as possible, in order to listen to their views and understand their concerns.
"I very much look forward to taking on the role."
Bailey will act as vice president in support of Mark Spofforth who will be president for 2012/13. The deputy president will be Martyn Jones.
