He will replace current incumbent Nic Nicandrou who has been appointed chief executive of Prudential Corporation Asia. The changeover will take place this summer.
This will not be the first time Fitzpatrick has worked at Prudential. He served as the group’s interim director of group compliance on secondment for two years from 2010 to 2012, while at the same time acting as Deloitte’s vice chairman and co-leading its CFO programme.
A member of both the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants and ICAS, he has been with Deloitte for 26 years. He became a partner in South Africa in 1997, moving to the Luxembourg office in 1999 and to the UK in 2001.
Over the years he built up his experience on insurance and investment management globally. Prior to taking on the managing partner role in 2015, he led Deloitte’s insurance and investment management audit practice and the insurance industry practice.
Commenting on his appointment, Prudential’s group chief executive Mike Wells said, “He brings both senior boardroom experience and a quarter of a century leading the most complex projects in global financial services.
“His auditor’s eye for detail combined with a matchless knowledge of the sector and Prudential will make him a huge asset to our executive team.”
