Fifth and final PCAOB board member sworn in

Duane DesParte was sworn in as the final board member of the Public Company Accounting Oversights Board (PCAOB) at the Securities and Exchange Commission yesterday

DesParte’s appointment completed the new five person board of the US accountancy watchdog.

DesParte joined the board after retiring from his role as financial controller and senior vice president at US energy provider Exelon Corporation, where he spent more than 10 years.

Previously he was audit partner at Deloitte & Touche (now Deloitte) and spent more than 17 years as a partner at Arthur Andersen.

DesParte joins University of Denver professor and director of corporate and commercial law Robert Brown, former US Treasury Department counsellor Kathleen Hamm and PwC partner James Kaiser on the board, after their appointment in December last year.

The board will be chaired by long-time Republican Senate aide William Duhnke after he was appointed to replace James Doty, who has served in the role since 2011.

Duhnke said DesParte would round out the expertise and diversity of the new board with his experience in the preparation and audit of corporate financial statements.
