Footballer Glenn Murray cleared of tax evasion

Brighton & Hove Albion player Glenn Murray and his wife were arrested in connection with a suspected £1.1m tax fraud in January 2018

HMRC has now concluded its investigation into the couple’s tax affairs and they will face no criminal charges.

The Revenue, however, refused to rule out further action against Murray in the future, according to a report in the Sun.

It raided their home and seized records last year during the couple’s arrest.

HMRC has been contacted for further comment.

Footballers and the football industry have increasingly fallen foul of tax authorities in recent years, with Rangers going under and high profile names such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi in court battles over tax evasion.
