Leeds best UK city to start a business

The Yorkshire city has emerged as a more cost-effective alternative to London, according to research

Leeds took number one spot, just ahead of Cardiff Liverpool, with Bristol and Swansea rounding out the top five places to launch a start-up.

The table was compiled by, a services marketplace, which analysed its extensive price data on accounting, recruitment, IT support, website creation and management, marketing, SEO, internet and phone providers, to determine the average start-up cost per city.

London was in 10th position, just below Edinburgh and Manchester.

Using the same data, Bark determined that the worst cities to start a business are Truro, St Davids, Bangor, Wells and Stirling.

“For decades, London has been the obvious choice for new businesses, however, we’re seeing that more and more people are opting to start their enterprise outside of the capital,” said Kai Feller, co-founder of
