HMRC awards £71m logistics contract

Logistics business Wincanton will work with the Revenue on customs compliance efforts

The five-year £71m contract will see Wincanton partner with HMRC and Border Force as they carry out targeted inland checks to stop the flow of mis-declared goods. It is part of HMRC’s plans to tackle tax avoidance, evasion and fraud.

HMRC has moved its inland pre-clearance operations from previous sites at Heathrow and Bicester to new purpose-equipped sites at Hayes and Milton Keynes.

Adrian Colman, CEO at Wincanton, said, "HMRC had a number of specific requirements for suppliers to this contract; from general haulage and container transport experience through to the ability to provide secure, flexible warehousing and an industry leading safety record.

The key to our approach is the ability to integrate and deliver all aspects through a single management team. This was a clear differentiator for us,” he added.

In recent years HMRC has dropped expensive contracts with IT companies Aspire and Concentrix.
