A round-up of this week's appointments, promotions, board moves and resignations

Haines Watts

Darren Holdway has been appointed as group chairman of the top-20 accountancy based in its Birmingham office.

Holdway joined the firm in 1989 and became partner in 1996. He then became managing partner in 2000.

Haines Watts has also just announced a management buy out of its Leeds office, which is now incorporated into its North East and Yorkshire regions.


Michael Kiely has been appointed as a partner in the London office of the advisory and accountancy firm, effective immediately.

Kiely has most recently been at UHY Hacker Young, where he spent more than 15 years. He’s got over 25 years’ experience in the profession having also previously spent more than 13 years as a manager at Baker Tilly. He is accredited by the Joint Insolvency Examination Board and is a member of the Insolvency Practitioners Association and the Association of Business Recovery Professionals.

Kreston Reeves

Colin Laidlaw has been appointed as director of VAT and duty at the mid-tier accountancy firm, effective immediately.

Laidlaw has more than 30 years experience in the profession having most recently been at RSM UK where he was associate director and was at the firm for more than seven years. Previously he was senior manager in VAT at both BDO and KPMG. He is an associate of the Institute of Indirect Taxation.


Carolyn Rand has been appointed as interim CFO at the mobile commerce company.

Rand has a wealth of experience having previously been interim group CFO at technology company McWane, group finance and treasury manager at software business Sepura and many others. She is a fellow of the chartered institute of chartered management accountants, a chartered global management accountant and is chair of the Institute of Directors Cambridgeshire Region
