Javid raids EY for chief of staff

The chancellor Sajid Javid has appointed Mats Persson, EY’s Brexit strategy leader, as his new chief of staff

Persson, who joined the Big Four firm in 2016, was once former prime minister David Cameron’s top advisor on the EU. He will take over as the chancellor’s chief of staff following the controversial sacking of Sonia Khan last week, according to a report from City AM.

The Treasury has been contact for comment.

A row erupted last week when it emerged that Kahn had been summoned to Downing Street and sacked without Javid’s consultation. It was reported that Kahn was accused of leaking Brexit documents.

Before advising Cameron, Persson had been director of Open Europe, a think tank promoting economic and political reform in Europe.
